My K10D

(content transferred from http://www.flash-comet.blogspot.com/, my other blog)

Yes, it is finally here! Just when I thought I have forgotten how to be excited. Coincidently, both the FA 50mm F1.4 lens and the K10D arrived on the same day. More so, they come right after I finish my midterm. So, right after the midterm, I rushed to Point Roberts to pick up the lens and then rushed back to Richmond to pick up the K10D.

I've been learning the camera non-stop since take the camera out of the box. At this point, all I can say is: wow, what a great camera. Getting it right out of the package, I can feel it's size and weight- which is lovely. I like heavier cameras because they feel solid- the extra 200-500 gram is just right.

One thing I'm most happy about is the fact that the K10D works great with the old Pentax manual lenses. Not only can exposure metering be displayed in the viewfinder continuously, but the metering also works really well. I tried a couple shots on the K10D with the 50mm F1.7 Pentax-M lens and found that it's way easier to get the exposure right than using the lens on the *ist DL. The shake reduction also worked really well. Having a sensor shift shake reduction mechanism in the camera body means the old lenses also got the benefit- this is another reason I'm making the switch to K10D. The old Pentax lense are cheap and good (moany consider them to be optically superior than the current AF lenses) and having this compatibility is quite a bonus for me. I've taken really sharp images with the old lens at a shutter speed of .5 seconds. Something I couldn't do in the DL.
